How It All Began

As a powerhouse of innovation and engineering, Chicago has long been a hub for the design and construction industry. The journey began in 2024 with the passion of local leaders and grassroots events that highlighted the need for representation and connection in the queer community. With a vibrant mix of history, pride, and ingenuity, Build Out Alliance Chicago officially launched in 2025 to champion inclusion in the City of Big Shoulders.

Our City Co-Chairs

Carlo Calma

As an immigrant from the Philippines and a proud member of the queer community, Carlo is deeply committed to ensuring representation and inclusion within the industry. This role allows Carlo to create safe spaces where queer professionals can connect, thrive, and build their careers. Leveraging his extensive network and advocacy for organizations like AIDS Foundation Chicago, Carlo is dedicated to fostering growth and visibility for the Chicago group.

Rachel Drouillard

Rachel recognized a significant gap in community and connection for queer professionals in the industry and was determined to fill it. Her passion for cultivating positive relationships and creating spaces for authentic interaction drives her leadership as co-chair. Rachel is focused on building a robust community for the next generation of queer professionals and collaborating with other LGBTQ+ organizations in Chicago to expand the reach and impact of Build Out Alliance.
