Join Build Out Alliance for a guided tour of Philip Johnson’s Glass House and private galleries provided by The National Trust for Historic Preservation. The approximately two-hour tour of Johnson’s 49-acre estate includes visits to The Glass House, Painting Gallery, Sculpture Gallery, and Da Monsta. Easily accessible via Metro-North Railroad departing from Grand Central Station, all tours will begin in downtown New Canaan, Connecticut. Build Out Alliance will provide supplemental information concerning Johnson’s personal life and views in addition to the tour.
Limited Space & Time To Register
We will be reserving a limited number of tours, with each tour limited to 13 people. Registrations will close on Tuesday, April 11. Additional tours may be added if the initial tour reaches capacity, so please register to the waitlist as we may open additional spaces!
Getting To & From The Glass House
To reach The Glass House, you can either drive or commute via Metro-North. For Metro-North riders, take the New Haven line from either Grand Central Station or the East 125th Street Station and transfer to the New Canaan line at the Stamford station. The ride on Metro-North costs approximately $11.50 each way for an off-peak ticket, and takes approximately an hour and fifteen minutes. All tours will begin at the Glass House Visitors Center located across the street from the New Canaan Station at 199 Elm Street. If arriving by car, on-street parking is available or in metered parking lots for approximately $4.
For those taking Metro-North, Build Out Alliance will designate a meeting location and time in Grand Central terminal for departure to Connecticut. A meeting location and time from New Canaan will be designated for those commuting back to New York. All details will be sent prior to the tour date.
Event Costs
The cost of the private tour is $65 per person, which will be collected through Eventbrite as part of the registration process. This cost is non-refundable.
The cost of getting to and from The Glass House via Metro-North will need to be paid out of pocket by attendees and is estimated to be about $23 round-trip. Attendees may also arrange alternative transportation to and from the starting location of the tour at their discretion.
